BayLISA

Our June and December meetings are scheduled to be "short topics" presentations, featuring several 15 minute presentations on topics of interest to production system administrators. Contact us if you would like to give a short presentation at one of these events.

If you would like to present at an upcoming BayLISA meeting, or would like to suggest a topic/presenter/event, please feel free to contact us at [email protected] or through our Meetup page.

BayLISA Mailing Lists

Please note that BayLISA has migrated its
active mailing lists to a new server and the
Mailman mailing list management software
as of the weekend of June 9, 2012.

The Majordomo system is no longer operational;
you can now manage your subscriptions via email
or the web interface at baylisa.org.

BayLISA now operates its mailing lists with the GNU Mailman list management package. For more information on Mailman, see list.org.

Our lists have been migrated from the previous Majordomo installation, to provide more friendly and manageable experiences for list members and managers. As an added benefit, you can access subscription options and list archives through a web interface, in addition to the traditional <listname>-request email interface.

The following lists are hosted on baylisa.org:

Active Mailing Lists

All but directors@ and members@ are available to the public. directors@ is for the leaders of the organization; anyone can send a message to that address to be read by all directors of BayLISA, but subscriptions are not open. members@ is for current members in good standing only

For any of the public lists, you can find out about the list or join/leave the list by clicking on the link in the headline for that list.

baylisa@

This is the general mailing list for BayLISA members and guests. General and random discussions on topics of interest and pertinence to system administration (and its related professions--storage, virtualization, network) are welcome here as long as they are indeed related reasonably to professional system administration, and are of a professional and courteous nature.

You must be a member of the list to post to the list. Drive-by posters, or posters who do not follow common netiquette and policies listed here may be subject to chastisement, banning, or reporting, as determined by the postmaster staff.

Estimated traffic level: may vary wildly, but 50 messages a month may not be unheard of.

baylisa-jobs

BayLISA's jobs list is a great place for reputable hiring managers, employees of hiring companies, and recruiters/staffing agencies to contact a wide range of Bay Area job seekers in the professional system administration community.

Best results can be obtained by posting a clear and concise job listing (or specification of your experience/credentials/qualifications), clear and valid contact information, and identification of your role in the job posting (hiring manager, HR staff of the hiring company, person on the team that's being hired into, contracted recruiter, search agent, etc). Attachments are not appropriate to this list and may be scrubbed or removed by the list software.

You must be a member of the list to post to the list. Drive-by posters, or posters who do not follow common netiquette and policies listed here may be subject to chastisement, banning, or reporting, as determined by the postmaster staff.

Estimated traffic level: 5-10 messages a month (but may vary in bursts)

baylisa-announce

The Announce list is a read-only list that is intended to have lower traffic levels and higher signal-to-noise ratios than baylisa@. Generally, directors can post to the list, and will usually do so with regard to BayLISA meetings and events, other related groups' events, and special offers or deals we negotiate for our general population.

Estimated traffic level: 3-5 messages a month

directors@

The directors address is a convenient way to reach the folks who run BayLISA. The only way to subscribe to this list is to be a member of the board of directors.

members@

The members list is a moderated/announce-only list for current members in good standing of BayLISA. This includes paid members, members of the board, and other persons given membership status by the board of directors. If you are a regular member, you will be subscribed upon receipt and acceptance of your membership application and payment, and unsubscribed upon expiration of your membership.
