unix laptop question: closing the lid

Robert (and others),

The heat issue is definitely something I'm concerned about, and
plan to at least partially address by making sure that the screen,
with heat-generating backlight, is off while the laptop runs.

I have a small wire rack, originally sold for cooling baked goods,
in the bag with each of my Thinkpads. I run them on the cooling
rack, since the bottom right-hand area gets so incredibly warm,
especially when the air temps are in the high 70's or above
.
Also, with the wire feet of the cooling rack turned outward, the
surface of the rack provides an extra measure of protection for
the laptop in the bag.

cheers,
Strata
