This is a very long description of a Banner Administrator, which could also
be a Unix Systems Administraotor OR Oracle DBA interested in learning
Banner.

THE  POSITION: Business Systems Applications Administrator



The Business Systems Applications Administrator provides a variety of IT
services including: technical analysis, configuration, implementation and
maintenance of vendor delivered Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) base
modules and the configuration, security and maintenance of application web
server and middleware infrastructure. Assignments may include server
architecture design, securing application infrastructure, reviewing and
applying vendor patches for the application and/or web and application
servers, investigating new vendor software, implementing and maintaining a
change management process, production support and technical documentation.

The Business Systems Applications Administrator is responsible for the
integration, operations and application administration of enterprise
systems including Ellucian ERP (Banner) and other locally developed or
vendor applications as assigned. Responsible for release management of
vendor upgrades, custom modifications and other configuration changes.

The Business Systems Applications Administrator regularly operates under
deadlines with periods of heavy workload and multiple assignments. Works
collaboratively with several other groups including Application, Database
and System Administration Teams.

Generic Scope:

Technical leader with a high degree of knowledge in the overall field and
recognized expertise in specific areas; problem-solving frequently requires
analysis of unique issues/problems without precedent and/or structure. May
manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering
policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of
autonomy.

Custom Scope:

Exhibits a high level of problem-solving ability and possesses a proven
track record for designing, supporting, and maintaining various flavors of
n-tier technologies and topologies. Works on complex systems with only
general direction and supervision.

Qualifications / Competencies

Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Knowledge of application system architecture concepts, understanding and
security considerations.

Thorough knowledge of applications programming technologies, tools and
protocols.

Full knowledge of professional IT concepts.

Ability to communicate effectively across the organization at multiple
levels both verbally and written.

Solid ability to gather, organize, and analyze data in the completion of
assignments.

Project management experience with complex enterprise resource planning
applications deployments with multiple system interfaces.

Experience with designing and deploying client / server and / or web based
technologies.

Knowledge of and experience with structured and ad hoc testing
methodologies, applying test automation to verify implementation.


Knowledge and experience with these technologies is required:
- Advanced Unix Shell scripting
- Advanced Knowledge of Oracle Database and middleware technologies
- Languages & Frameworks: SQL, C, PL/SQL, COBOL, JAVA,
- Tools: Oracle Forms and Reports Designer, JRE, Toad, SQL Developer, or
SQLPlus, Subversion, Git
- Metadata Interchange Standards: XML
- Web Servers: Apache
- Point to point web services or SOA:
- Middleware or web application platforms: Oracle Application Server (OAS)
or Oracle Fusion Middleware
- OS: UNIX

Knowledge of Information Technology security functions and practices.

Experience with these technologies are preferred, but not required:
- Ellucian Banner installations, configurations and operational support
- Databases: Oracle, SQL Server or MySQL
- Application Methodologies: Joint Application Development (JAD), and Lean
Development (LD)
- Design Methods: at least one of the following, Object Oriented Design
(OOD), Entity Relationship Diagrams (ERD
- Languages & Frameworks: Java, Groovy, Grails, and Java EE
- Tools: JDeveloper, APEX, Stat for Banner,
- Metadata Interchange Standards: XML, SOAP, REST
- Web Servers Apache / Microsoft IIS
- Middleware or web application platforms: experience with open source
Enterprise Service Bus, FUSE, or Oracle Service Bus
- OS: Windows Server 2008, Linux, Solaris
