If you haven't visited the survey yet, please check it out... we're discussing it at tonight's Board of Directors meeting, so any responses received by tonight will get the quickest consideration. I've been working for a month or so on putting together a State of Hadoop session for BayLISA, but it took most of that month to find out that few of the presenters were available. So we're scheduling our big Hadoop fest for May 16th instead. More details on "Hadoop Innovations at BayLISA" May 16, 2013: http://www.meetup.com/BayLISA/events/74452112/ (as details become available they'll go there). We're having Ansible ("Advanced System Orchestration") in to speak at our April 18th meeting. More details (as available) on "Ansible at BayLISA" April 18, 2013: http://www.meetup.com/BayLISA/events/63737112/ Now down to the not so good news. With the Hadoop talk being pushed out, we're again without a headline speaker this month. I believe we have one talk lined up from a board member, but we're looking for another talk or two. If you have something you'd like to present for 25-30 minutes next Thursday, preferably that hasn't been presented in the last 3-6 months, please get in touch with me asap. No Powerpoint required... live demos are great though. :) Or at least practical reports on what's made your life easier lately in systems/network administration. As always, we're looking for folks to fill in gaps in the BayLISA Board of Directors. If you know anybody in the tech industry and can commit to an average of 1-2 hours a week to advance the cause of BayLISA, we can use your help. Get in touch with me directly for more info, or talk to me at an upcoming board meeting. So, I remind you all among the ordinary members, you do not need to be on the Board itself to be able to offer your fellow sysadmins the same service. With that said, my talk... SSL PART TWO: MANAGING YOUR CERTIFICATES Heather Stern many months ago gave us a presentation about the SSL protocol, the handshake and some pitfalls within the expected encryption. This month, part two on the same topic, instead of a day in the life of an HTTPS transaction, we shall have more the week in the life of the sysadmin who set things up to make sure one can happen - the back end of having certificates, and setting them up. Bio: Heather Stern has spent over 15 years as an open source consultant in the Silicon Valley under the name Starshine Technical Services. Starshine is not looking for clients as she is presently in Production Operations at a big name company and enjoying every crazy minute. I have another possible talk in the works, or we may just have a roundtable on another topic for half an hour. I'd like to expand on what Heather wrote... as most of our speakers are not board members, there's no expectation that you be a board member (or even a paying BayLISA member) to present or to help find presenters. It is primarily the board's responsibility to coordinate these things, but we always welcome outside help. One of our highest rated talks recently came from someone who hasn't even been to a meeting in several years. :) We are still taking survey responses, and will consider them as we plan out into the rest of 2013. If you haven't filled out the survey, please check out http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/YLPC3FR and give us your feedback. We have room for 33 more respondents on this survey, and will have another different one out in a few weeks or so. Roy Rapoport of Netflix monitoring engineering and Adam Johnson of Midokura will be joining us. We plan to have soft drinks available, but will not be serving dinner. Please eat before you arrive if you expect to need that sort of thing. Please visit the Meetup page if you wish to update your RSVP status. We want to make sure we have seats and drinks for everyone.
