Tim Gerla of Ansible will be our guest, speaking about Ansible IT orchestration and configuration management software. Please plan to be there by 8pm at the latest; we'll start a few minutes later than usual to allow our LSPE friends to join us. Security will be at the door facing the parking lot; hopefully there will be less confusion about how to get to the meeting space. We will be expanding the room to two rooms this time, with limited table space available in the back. If you have RSVPed and cannot make it, please come back to http://www.meetup.com/BayLISA/events/63737112/ and change your RSVP status. We will be opening more seats up but would like to make sure that everyone who wants to attend has room to do so. If you have time before BayLISA, LSPE, the Large Scale Production Engineering group that meets across the street, will be hosting a presentation on testing and debugging distributed systems. You can rsvp for that session, which begins at 6pm, at http://www.meetup.com/SF-Bay-Area-Large-Scale-Production-Engineering/events/97564132/ Next month we've got Eric Sammer of Cloudera and Alan Gates of Hortonworks coming in to talk about the state of the Hadoop art. Details and RSVP at http://www.meetup.com/BayLISA/events/74452112/ Thanks, Robert Novak BayLISA President From paige at puppetlabs.com Mon Apr 22 13:32:06 2013 From: paige at puppetlabs.com (Paige Huggins) Date: Mon, 22 Apr 2013 13:32:06 -0700 Subject: [Baylisa] Next week- Puppet Labs research opportunity Message-ID: Puppet Labs is conducting on-location research visits in the San Francisco area *April 30th and May 1st. * We're looking for someone involved in the release management process for application code or configuration management. In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: <529289F4-B3D9-46D9-8DA8-C15BC282F9A6@explosive.net> For a little more colour to this request -- Puppet is super interested in finding out how sysadmins and other operations/devops folk go about their day-to-day life moving changes into production. There's obviously a huge variation in the toolchain, methodology and pain points across the spectrum of organisations faced with the common problem of managing change. This kind of "sit down with real people getting work done" research is pretty common in other disciplines but (AFAIK) fairly new to the operations space; although it might seem like kind of a weird imposition, the sessions I've been fortunate enough to see have been actually quite gratifying for the people involved. So please, if this is at all in your wheelhouse, sign up and participate. Full disclosure, after fifteen years as a Bay Area sysadmin I moved to Portland to work on the open source team at Puppet Labs and have a professional interest as well as a personal delight in building tools for sysadmins that don't suck. - Eric Sorenson - N45.52619 W122.6792 - http://twitter.com/ahpook - On Apr 27, 2013, at 9:18 PM, Robert Novak wrote: > Our friends at Puppet Labs asked us to pass this along... if you're > qualified and interested, please follow up with them directly. > > o/___________________________________________________ > o\ > > Puppet Labs is conducting on-location research visits in the San Francisco > area April 30th and May 2nd. > > We're looking for someone involved in the release management process for > application code or configuration management.
