Hi Everyone,

Two weeks from tomorrow is the May 2012 BayLISA meeting. We're once
again gathering at the 2025 Stierlin building on LinkedIn's campus,
same place as the last two months.

MAY 2012 BAYLISA MEETING

This month's meeting is focused on multi-hypervisor virtualization.
Budget issues, licensing, and the popularity of Whatever-As-A-Service
platforms are leading many companies to work with hypervisors that
don't come from companies whose names start with VMW, often in hybrid
environments including that particular hypervisor platform.

We have friends from Xangati, Hotlink, and Tegile coming in to present
on the challenges around virtualization management and, of course,
their particular perspectives and solutions for those challenges.
Thanks to Xangati for sponsoring the meeting as well.

Be sure to RSVP at http://www.meetup.com/BayLISA/events/42776962/ if
you'll be joining us, so we can plan seating and refreshments
accordingly.

BAYLISA SYSADMIN SURVEY

We occasionally have speakers or sponsors ask about the makeup of
BayLISA attendees and members. I can usually come up with a vague
summary, but I'd like to get something more accurate and current, with
your help.

There will be an online survey coming later this month that I'll ask
any available member of these lists to complete. I will also provide
printed versions at the meeting, as I know not everyone likes using
web forms. The information we gather from these surveys, combined with
contact counts between our various venues, will help us attract bigger
names as sponsors and presenters at future meetings, and will
ultimately

VIDEO OF APRIL 2012 MEETING

Video from last month's Storage Networking meeting, presented and
sponsored by Cambridge Computer and Nimble Storage, will be going up
for BayLISA members later this week. If you're a member, you will be
receiving a members-only link for the videos. We'll also be sharing
the Velocity discount code in that email.

BECOMING A MEMBER OF BAYLISA

If you're not a member, we invite you to join and help support future
BayLISA activities as well as gaining access to discounts and benefits
(including early access to videos before they are opened to the
general public). Note that signing up for Meetup.com is not the same;
Meetup "membership" with BayLISA is merely for the functions of
meeting notification, RSVP, and reminders.

Visit http://www.baylisa.org/members/join.shtml for details, and feel
free to contact me if you have any questions. You can join online,
paying via Paypal, or if you prefer, there are PostScript and PDF
versions of our membership form on the website. You can bring that
form with a check or money order for the membership fee, and give it
to any board member at the next meeting (or mail it to our PO Box
listed on the form).

SHORT BUT COOL - JUNE 2012 BAYLISA MEETING

Sure, it's almost two months away, but wouldn't you like to get
something planned out well in advance? Your BayLISA board sure would.
We're looking for up to half a dozen short demos or talks for the June
21 "Short But Cool" meeting.

Contact me directly, or drop a note to directors at baylisa.org, if you'd
like to participate. A twenty (20) word synopsys and twenty word bio
would be great, as well as any more detail on your presentation,
background, etc. Live demos are better than Powerpoint (or Keynote),
and topics of interest to a wide range of sysadmins would be best,
although this is a good place for an interesting but tightly focused
demo as well.

UPCOMING MEETINGS

Based on past surveys and conversations with members and guests, we're
working on a number of themed meetings, including Solaris technology,
VMware, and monitoring/metrics. We're always open to your suggestions,
whether it's a topic, a technology, a presenter, a sponsor, or a site
host. Whether you are one or more of these five things, or just want
to suggest one or more, the board would love to hear your feedback.
Contact me directly, or drop a note to directors at baylisa.org, with
whatever you have in mind. We'll respond to any serious suggestions
and see what we can do--no guarantees, of course.

That's it for now... thanks all for your attention and support of
BayLISA. Stay tuned for more!
