BayLISA board elections coming November 17 - Come vote, or run for the board, or both.

Hi folks,

I'd like to remind everyone that our Board of Directors election will be
held at the beginning of the November 17 meeting. All members in good
standing (paid members, board members, and honorary members) are eligible to
vote for the new class of board members, and are encouraged to attend the
meeting to do so. You must be present to vote.

If you're not a paying/honorary/board member but would like to get involved
in the board election this year, and to help support BayLISA's activities
over the next year, you can still do that.

You can join BayLISA through our web site via Paypal (
http://www.baylisa.org/members/join.shtml, preferred), mail a form with your
payment (see the previous link for the membership form), or you can fill out
a form and pay on site at either of our next two general meetings (October
20, November 17).

Board membership is $45 for most individuals, $15 for students. Consult your
tax advisor or employer to see if your membership is tax-deductible
or reimbursable on expense reports.

There are also corporate membership options, which give individual
membership benefits to an institutional representative, with the option to
sponsor meetings during the year as well. Details are at

For those of you who are motivated to get actively involved with BayLISA's
operation, we will be looking for a couple of new board members. Several
current board members are running for re-election, but some members have
left or will be moving on to new challenges, and we would like to get a
strong panel of people to help run and grow the organization for the next
two years and beyond.

It only takes about two hours a week, on average, including board and
general meetings, outreach, and meeting coordination. If you can make this
kind of commitment (or more) and would like to be on the ballot for the
November 17 election, please get in touch with me directly with any
questions or simply to state your candidacy. We'll ask that candidates be
present promptly at the beginning of the meeting, and we will offer a chance
for a brief statement if you wish to offer one.

As far as answering the most popular question of the week... we're hoping to
have details on the October general meeting (October 20, 7:30pm, LinkedIn at
2051 Stierlin Ct in Mountain View) on the website and the Meetup page soon.
Details for November and December will be coming soon as well.

Also, we're looking for some short presentations (demonstrations preferred)
for December's short topics meeting. We're planning a similar format to the
June meeting, with shorter topics at the beginning and a featured speaker to
wrap up the meeting. If you'd like to volunteer for a ~10 minute talk on
something you've done recently, get in touch with me to get on the
schedule.
