Did you know we're giving out jetpacks and hovercars now? Well, neither did we, so it probably isn't going to happen. But we do have an excellent opportunity to network with your colleagues in system administration around the bay area, and to help us bring in speakers and technologies of interest. This month, I have friends from Arista Networks and Force 10 Networks coming in to talk about nifty new stuff in their network platforms. We have a couple of other ideas being worked on as well, but we can still use your help. * Invite a friend or coworker (or more than one) to come to the next meeting. It's at 7:30pm on Thursday, March 17, at LinkedIn in Mountain View. RSVP at http://www.meetup.com/BayLISA/events/16403756/ and get more details. * If you go to another local sysadmin/devops/technical meetup, mention us when they have open discussion/announcements. Just tell people to go to baylisa.org or meetup.com/baylisa ... both will be updated more often going forward. * If you know or hear a speaker you think would be of interest, either send us a note at blw at baylisa.org or through the Meetup site, or direct the speaker toward us at the same venues. We have a few openings this year, and we're always looking to diversify our presentations and keep new and old attendees interested. * If you *are* a speaker you think would be of interest to local sysadmins, get in touch with us too. We have openings for full hour presentations (or half hours if we can get two in the same month), as well as June and December "short topics" sessions where you get about 10 minutes to talk very concisely about something that might not warrant a full hour. As always, if you have questions or comments about BayLISA, feel free to contact any of us on the board or blw at baylisa.org. We'd love to hear your feedback. Message-ID: Hi everyone, We're working on the set list for the June 16 BayLISA meeting, which will be another "short topics" session like December, but potentially with shorter topics. So far there are three or four semi-committed speakers talking on a couple of interesting topics, about 10 minutes each plus a brief question-and-answer period after each. But we have room for many more, and even a longer presentation (half hour or so) if one were suggested. Would you be interested in presenting something short but cool at the June meeting? It's just a ten minute slot, you can do slides or demos or interpretive dance, and get some feedback from your peers. Great for honing brown bag skills for work, or assessing the technical crowd reaction for a future conference presentation. We are also looking for suggestions for future "regular" meeting speakers, and have openings for either half-meeting topics (where two presenters split the evening, as we did for March's meeting) or full-meeting topics over the next few months. Feel free to contact me directly or point prospective speakers toward blw at baylisa.org for followup. Thanks all... and see you on April 21 (next board meeting is April 4, contact me if you're a member interested in attending/getting involved). As the board secretary and the facility host for the board meeting, I'd like to invite interested members of BayLISA to join us for this or any board meeting. BayLISA is run by volunteers; if you're interested in helping coordinate activities, or are thinking about running for a seat on the board of directors this fall, it's a great opportunity to start getting familiar with the inner workings of the board and getting involved. If you do want to join us at the next board meeting, please email me directly for details and directions. Also, I'd like to remind you that we have a mailing list called BayLISA Wheels (blw at baylisa) which is for board members past and present, and anyone else interested in discussing the operation of the organization. It's a fairly low volume list most of the time, but it's a good list to join if you are thinking about getting more involved with the organization. See http://www.baylisa.org/services.shtml for instructions on joining the mailing lists. Thanks, Robert Novak BayLISA Secretary/Cheerleader
