I did substantial research on these types of boxes about a year ago for BayLISA, and we ended up getting a pair of these for our video collection because they were well-rated & the only system at the time that met all our criteria--one of which was complete OS autonomy. Brent's comments & blog detail things pretty well, so I won't drive that road, too; however, I'll say that I liked it so much after I played with the BayLISA boxes that I bought one for myself. Buy.com occasionally runs a special on these (free extra disk for the 2-disk models), so I bought ours there. Personal note: these work fine as Mac Time Machine backup targets, in addition to the backup solutions Brent mentioned. Ttechnical notes: Netgear's latest product in this line is a six-disk unit with a HW RAID controller (standard 4-disk NV+ model that I have is SW RAID). They also make 1U rack-mount versions for those preferring that form factor. -Guy From matt at ixsystems.com Mon Nov 10 11:47:17 2008 From: matt at ixsystems.com (Matt Olander) Date: Mon, 10 Nov 2008 11:47:17 -0800 Subject: [FreeBSD-Announce] meetBSD California - 5 Days Left! Message-ID: <2018F825-5EC6-4B64-A57F-0D4366004E89@ixsystems.com> Hi everyone, There are only 5 days left until meetBSD California at the Googleplex in Mountain View, California starting Saturday, November 15th at 10am. The first meetBSD in the United States also marks the 15th Anniversary of the FreeBSD operating system, which will be commemorated with an After-Party on Saturday night hosted at the Buddha Lounge. We still have a few spots left (around 25-30, I believe) but registration will be closing at some point over the next few days, so if you've been putting off registering, now is the time! The conference is *free* to attend and only $50 dollars for you and a guest to attend the After-Party, which includes dinner and drinks :-) More information as well as the registration form can be found at http://www.meetBSD.com . If you are attending the conference but not the party, leave the party checkbox blank and select Mail-In Payment and you will not be billed. See you all there! -matt -- Matt Olander meetBSD Conference Team _______________________________________________ freebsd-announce at freebsd.org mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-announce To unsubscribe, send any mail to "freebsd-announce-unsubscribe at freebsd.org" From AFife at untangle.com Wed Nov 12 13:45:31 2008 From: AFife at untangle.com (Andrew Fife) Date: Wed, 12 Nov 2008 13:45:31 -0800 Subject: OpenMoko CEO @ BALUG (Tuesday Nov 18) Message-ID: <9347C2AED406124287DD2A007EB15B130183949C98@EXCHANGE.Untangle.local> Hi Folks: Sean Moss-Pultz will be speaking at BALUG on Tuesday (11/18). Bottomline: if we don't have 40 RSVPs the day before the meeting, we don't get the banquet room.
